Full Description

Five well equipped cottages, four situated in the cobbled courtyard of Gelston Castle and one cottage, Kirkmirren, a secluded hideaway at the foot of Screel Hill. All cottages are dog and child friendly, and all but one have real wood fires (free firewood provided).

Between 1 and 7 people per cottage, groups up to 23 in the courtyard (in 4 separate houses).

> Coast: the estate stretches down to the Solway Coast (National Scenic Area), where there are beautiful beaches, cliff walks, etc. all within 10 minutes drive.

> Cycling: routes on quiet country lanes from the door, forestry tracks, and three of the 7 Stanes mountain bike trails up to very challenging levels within easy reach by car; undercover bike storage on site.

> Huge range of possible walks from the door and further afield, across unspoilt farmland and woods.

> Fishing: good and challenging sea fishing around Balcary Point (well known!), only 10 minutes away; a variety of loch and river fishing available within 20 minutes or less by car.

> Golf: 3 courses within 15 minutes by car, and the wonderful Southerness championship links course (Scotland’s best kept golfing secret) only 30 minutes away.

> Birds: Ospreys nesting 4 miles away at Threave (viewing platform); waders in Orchardton Bay on the estate; friends have counted over 300 bird species in the area.

> Part of a 4500 acre rural estate with working livestock farms. Hundreds of lambs about from March onwards!
